The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), North-West Regional Office, has on Tuesday, 1st September 2026 taken its integrity campaign to the Port Loko Government Hospital, engaging health workers on ethical conduct, accountability and the prevention of corruption in public health service delivery.
Addressing doctors, nurses and administrative staff, Regional Director, Zainab Othman spoke on the need to ensure that access to healthcare is free from bribery, favouritism and extortion. Hence, she urged health workers to uphold professional standards and treat patients with fairness, dignity and respect, noting that the health sector directly impacts the lives and wellbeing of citizens.She further encouraged staff to embrace ethical practices and accountability in the discharge of their duties, stressing that integrity in healthcare is critical to maintaining public trust.
The Acting Medical Superintendent of the Port Loko Government Hospital, Dr. Alpha Kabba, welcomed the engagement and expressed the hospital’s commitment to strengthening internal monitoring systems and ensuring that patients receive quality healthcare without undue payments.
An inspection tour of the facility was subsequently conducted by Dr. Kabba alongside Senior Matron Martha Senesi, Senior Community Health Officer (CHO) Mohamed Lamin Bangoura and Matron Magerete Vandy.
During the tour, Dr. Kabba highlighted several improvements undertaken at the hospital, including the renovation of the Operating Theatre, installation of a borehole to improve water supply, maintenance of a tricycle to support waste management, removal of 28 unauthorised personal staff freezers that were affecting electricity supply, and beautification of the hospital through tree planting.He explained that, despite challenges associated with subvention, funds generated by the hospital have been directed towards priority improvements and maintenance of the facility.
Dr. Kabba also highlighted support from community authorities and other stakeholders, including donations of more than 200 bags of cement towards the hospital’s development.He therefore expressed appreciation to Dr. Yilla, Ambassador Totti Fofanah and Nancy Gbomoi for their support towards the growth and development of the hospital.
The engagement forms part of the Commission’s ongoing prevention and public education drive to promote a culture of integrity, accountability and responsible service delivery across key public institutions in Sierra Leone.
