HIGH COURT CONVICTS DR. MATTHEW MICHAEL AMARA ON CORRUPTION CHARGES RELATING TO THE MANAGEMENT OF GAVI FUNDS

Dr. Mathew Michael Amara, Principal Health Economist of the GAVI Health Systems Strengthening Support at the Ministry of Health and Sanitation has, on 19th September 2013, been convicted in the High Court of Sierra Leone on corruption charges relating to the management of GAVI Funds, in a matter brought against him by the Anti-Corruption Commission.

The Presiding Judge,  the Honorable Justice J.B. Katutsi,  sentenced Dr. Amara to a fine of Three Hundred and Fifty Million Leones (Le: 350, 000, 000/00) or serve a three-year imprisonment term.

Pursuant to its mandate, the general public is hereby re-assured of the Commission’s continued resolve to stop wastages of government revenue and instill discipline in public financial management.
