The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), through its Public Education and Outreach Unit, South, on Wednesday, 2nd September 2026, engaged employees of the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA), Bo Regional Office, on promoting ethical practices, accountability, and integrity safeguards in the discharge of their duties.The engagement, held at EDSA’s Regional Office Conference Room on Hospital Road, Bo City, focused on the role of integrity in strengthening revenue generation, operational efficiency, and reliable electricity supply.
Speaking at the engagement, ACC Regional Manager, South, Mohamed Tomboyeke, underscored the importance of reliable electricity to Sierra Leone’s commercial growth and socio-economic development. He acknowledged the challenges confronting EDSA and the negative public perception surrounding its operations, noting that deliberate efforts are required to safeguard the institution from unlawful and dishonest practices.
Manager Tomboyeke urged EDSA employees to remain committed to their responsibilities, warning that negligence and misconduct could contribute to power outages, revenue losses, and reduced public confidence. He also highlighted key provisions of the Anti-Corruption Act 2008, as amended in 2019, and reminded participants of the serious penalties for corruption offences, including fines and imprisonment upon conviction.
ACC Senior Public Education Officer, Abdulai Saccoh, commended EDSA staff for their efforts amid operational challenges and urged them to put the national interest first by serving with professionalism, loyalty, and integrity.He identifiedillegal electricity connections, billing fraud, and bribery as practices capable of undermining revenue collection and the reliability of power supply. Such acts, he noted, can increase the cost of doing business, undermine investor confidence, compromise safety, and deprive the State of resources needed to expand and improve the national electricity grid.
For his part, ACC Public Education Officer, Mohamed A. Kabba, described the engagement as strategically important, noting that access to reliable electricity is fundamental to national development and stability. He emphasized EDSA’s critical role in supporting households, small businesses, and commercial enterprises across the country.
He stated that strengthening EDSA’s revenue generation, operational efficiency, and integrity systems is essential to protecting Sierra Leone’s socio-economic future.
Responding on behalf of EDSA, Regional Manager, South, Salieu Kamara, expressed appreciation to the ACC for its continued sensitization and integrity interventions, which he said have added value to the Authority’s operations.
He reaffirmed EDSA’s commitment to internalizing the integrity messages and improving the efficiency and reliability of electricity supply to both commercial and household consumers. Kamara also urged his colleagues to adhere strictly to the EDSA Code of Ethics and avoid conduct that could expose them to disciplinary or legal sanctions.
