The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has presented its Compliance Monitoring Report on the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) to its Director General Josephine Kamara. The presentation took place on Wednesday, 7th October, 2026, at Integrity House, Tower Hill, Freetown.
Presenting the report, ACC Deputy Commissioner Augustine Foday Ngobie stressed that the exercise was a preventive intervention aimed at strengthening institutional integrity. He reaffirmed the Commission’s collaborative approach, stating: “Prevention is better than cure, and today you are here on account of that saying.”
The Director of the ACC’s Prevention Department, Hawanatu Omotayo Kamara, explained that the exercise was conducted in close collaboration with SLBC management. Describing the Department as the Commission’s “friendly face”, she emphasised its responsibility to help public institutions strengthen internal corruption control mechanisms. She urged management to address outstanding weaknesses while sustaining areas of strong performance.
The Deputy Director of the Prevention Department Samuel Muti Marah Esq. explained that the monitoring exercise followed a corruption risk assessment at SLBC, which identified weaknesses in governance and administration, including matters relating to the Board. He noted that the findings and recommendations were intended to guide reforms and strengthen accountability within the Corporation.
The Head of the ACC’s Monitoring and Compliance Unit, Moses Bangura, disclosed that SLBC’s compliance level had increased from 65 per cent to 89 per cent over the past few months. He commended the progress and urged management to address the remaining gaps to achieve full compliance.
Responding, Josephine Kamara thanked the ACC for its preventive work and assured the Commission of SLBC’s continued cooperation with the monitoring process. She encouraged other public institutions to take similar steps to address weaknesses that could create opportunities for corruption.
The presentation formed part of the ACC’s ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional compliance, reduce corruption risks and promote transparency and accountability in public service delivery.
