In accordance with the Anti-Corruption Act 2008, as amended in 2019, all public officers from defined grades are required to declare their assets, incomes, and liabilities within three months of assuming office, every two years thereafter, and upon leaving office. To strengthen compliance with this statutory requirement, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Regional Office North West has facilitated a training exercise for over fifty (50) members of various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) at the Commission’s 13 Sheriffa Street Office in Port Loko. The training targeted officers with fiduciary responsibilities, including those in Grade 7 and above whom the law imposes such obligation.
Addressing participants, Regional Director, Zainab Othman described the 2026 biennial online asset declaration system as a reviewed and user-friendly platform developed by the Directorate of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI). She emphasized that the platform was designed to enhance transparency, prevent illicit enrichment, and strengthen accountability within the public sector.
She further warned that failure to comply with the asset declaration requirements may attract fines, penalties, or dismissal in accordance with the law. “Those in Grade Seven (7) and above, including persons in lower grades with fiduciary responsibilities, as well as elected and politically appointed officials, must ensure compliance,” Director Othman emphasized.
Participants from the various MDAs expressed satisfaction with the improved platform, describing it as straightforward, accessible, and easy to navigate. They pledged to cascade the knowledge gained to their respective colleagues and management teams, while committing to comply with the deadline set by the Commission for the online asset declaration exercise.
The training sessions were facilitated by Public Education Officer, Dalton Shyllon, and Finance Officer, Patricia Farah Yealimay, who expertly guided participants through the Commission’s online asset declaration platform and its operational procedures.
