Hawanatu Omotayo Kamara (Nee Tejan) was born on the 27th February 1985 in Freetown. She joined the Commission in 2013 as a Monitoring and Compliance Officer attached to the System Review Department (now Prevention Department). As a compliance officer, she built a solid foundation in oversight, accountability and institutional integrity. Through her hard work and commitment, she was promoted to Regional Manager in Kono District where she was able to transition the office from Sub Regional Office to a Regional.
In April 2025, as a result of her strong organizational skills, result oriented approach and professionalism; she was appointed Regional Director of the East, Kenema. In her current role, she provides strategic leadership, overseas the regional operations and drives initiatives that promote transparency accountability and effective governance.
Before joining the Commission, Mrs Kamara worked with the Network Movement for Democracy and Human Right as a project officer where she devised strategies to the Project Management for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the project by identifying bottlenecks and developing plans to minimize or eliminate such bottlenecks.
Hawanatu holds a Diploma in Peace and Conflict Studies, a Bachelor’s Degree with Honours in Political Science and a Master’s Degree in Diplomacy and International Relations from the University of Sierra Leone. She also holds a certificate in Forensic Auditing and Project Management, Monitoring and Evaluation from the African Institute of Management Sciences in Ghana and the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM) respectively.
She is married with one child.
