ACC SECURES CONVICTION IN MAKENI

ANTI - CORRUPTION COMMISSION CATHEDRAL HOUSE 3 GLOUCESTER STREET FREETOWN SIERRA LEONE, WEST AFRICA 26 th October, 2018 PRESS RELEASE ACC SECURES CONVICTION IN MAKENI The High Court of Sierra Leone , Holden at Makeni, and presided over by the Honourable Justice Monfred Sesay , on Friday 26 th October 2018 , sentenced John Amara and I brahim Bah to a fine of Thirty Million Leones ( Le 30,000,000) each , or a three - year jail term . Both men were convicted on one count of Conspiracy to Commit a Corruption Offence, contrary to Section 128(1) of the Anti - Corruption Act 2008. John Amara was a storekeeper at the Electricity Generation and Transmission Company (EGTC) in Makeni, while Ibrahim Bah was a fuel dealer at NP Filling S tation along Kabala Road, Makeni . It could be recalled that on Saturday 5 th November 2016 , at Makeni in the North of Si erra Leone , the two were caught stealing up to Ten T housand , Five Hundred and T en (10, 510) liters of diesel belonging to EGTC. The ACC was represented by Lawyers Mohamed Mu c tarr Sow and Mohamed Kroma; whilst the defendant s w ere represented by Lawyers A . Sa nnoh and A . Fornah . The ACC reaffirms its commitment to the fight against corruption in Sierra Leone.
